October 4, 2009 Wow, October already, where does the time go? We’ve finally been getting some days with no rain, but cooler temperatures are here with the sunny days and water levels have gone down big time over the past week. I’m actually hoping for a little rain again as launching the boat to fish the Skeena may become a problem in a few days. Coho fishing has been outstanding for us the past week with 4 days of more than 30 fish on. All of our landed fish have been chromers and averaging probably about 12 to 14 pounds, with a few fish near 20 pounds so no complaints here. The trees are coming into their fall colors and I expect near freezing temperatures in the morning soon, a whole new season is underway. I’ve seen bear and wolf this past week, and there are lots of different birds migrating through the region or looking for places to spend the winter, trumpeter swans for example, so hikes anywhere in the area should give folks lots to see. The new porch has been the busiest room in the house as it is now the place to hang out.
If
you are looking for some tried and true, locally tied flies, please feel
welcome to drop by when you are in our area , or place an order before
arrival! Articulated leeches, minnows and muddlers are always excellent
choices, but I am now prefering single hooks again quite offen to prevent
fouling of the fly on the cast and the strip. If an angler is carefull this
problem is minimized, and the extra action can really make the difference at
times, so I still make sure I have both versions with me. My Sockeye fly has
a permanent place in my flyboxes and clients have shown it's effectiveness on
chinooks and steelhead as well. Fished nymph style on a floating line,(Skeena
River), in quieter water we've watched sockeye flash out and attack it.
Travelling for business or pleasure, we extend a Terrace welcome to all of our guests, and offer a personal service one can't find in other accommodations. For outdoor
enthusiasts, we have a dry room for your gear at the end of the day, as well
as the workshop for equipment repair and maintenance. |
